The Getty Villa

The Getty Villa

Activity: The Getty Villa. How to Get There: It’s in Pacific Palisades on the way to Malibu. This is different than the regular Getty which is off the 405. Cost: Free, but parking is $20. Make a free advance reservation to get in. Hours: 10 AM - 5 PM, closed Tuesdays.

The Getty Villa completely blew me away. It’s separate from the regular Getty off the 405. The building is a Roman ruin reimagined in its full glory and it’s filled with ancient artifacts. I found it very manageable with our toddler because he could run free through the gardens and courtyards while we switched off looking at the artifacts. It was one of the most beautiful places I’ve been in LA so far, especially with the ocean views and Malibu mountains in the background!

On a subsequent visit, we found an awesome children’s room. When you go in the main villa, pass the elevators on your right. Turn right and in the corner there you will find the children’s room! They had pots our toddler loved drawing on, a shadow room, and plenty of places for him to create his own art.
