St. Peter's Basilica With Kids

St. Peter's Basilica With Kids

Activity: St. Peter's Basilica. Metro Stop: Ottaviano and then walk 10 minutes south on Via Ottaviano. Cost: Free. Hours: 5-7 pm.

Today is the day for Vatican City! Modest dress is required for Vatican City. Do not wear short shorts or a tank top or you will not be allowed inside. Laugh at the tourists required to purchase overpriced shawls to cover their skin so that they can go in.

Bring something to entertain the kiddos because you may be spending some time in line today. Hopefully not too much if you follow these tips, but you can’t bypass the security lines or the gelato line. Note: if you are pregnant, wear tight clothes and hold your belly lots because they let me skip ALL the lines while I was pregnant!

Start at St. Peter’s Basilica. Get there early. The church opens at 7 AM and the crowds can be insane. Hop in the security checkpoint line. Entrance to the church is free, but it is  €5 to climb the dome (opens at 8). Once inside the church, follow the audio tour for a self-guided tour of St. Peter’s. After you finish at St. Peter’s take a food break and let your kids run in the plaza. Hit up Gelateria Old Bridge on your way over to The Vatican. There will be a line full of tourists and nuns alike. You will want to get in it. Their gelato is really good.
